Wat are Novel Foods?
Novel Foods are all foods or ingredients that were not consumed in significant quantities within the European Union before 15 May 1997.
Novel Foods are foods:
- with a new or deliberately modified molecular structure
- based on micro-organisms, fungi or algae
- based on material of mineral origin
- based on plants(parts)
- based on animals(parts)
- based on cell culture or tissue culture
- resulting from a new production process
- from nanomaterial
